
A Jewish person is being dragged away by Latvian soldiers into the Rigo Ghetto.
Histroy
Riga city was found in 1201. The city was ruled by many nations at the time. When Livonia (Livland) disowned in the late 16th century, after Riga city joined Poland. Polish ruled for a few years. Sweden and Poland fought and Sweden won. In return Sweden won control of Riga city Ghetto in 1621. After the war of Sweden and Russia Riga city was in Russian control. The Riga city ended up being the second largest city in north-westren Russia. Shortly after the German forces came the Soviet Uoion was created which lasted two years. In Lativa Riga was declared the capital in 1920. In 1742 the Jews were expelled from the city, but later were able to return. By 1935 almost half of the city was Jewish, which was about 43,000 people.
This was the notice that the Jews were given by the German, Russian, and Latvins when they were told to leave.
"All Jews living within the boundaries of Riga City who as yet have not moved to the ghetto must do so before October 25, 6:00 p.m. Those who do not observe this directive will be most severely punished."
This video is makes me think about the childern that had to grow up in the Riga Ghetto City.

Interesting choice of the Elvis video. This returns to what we discussed in class about similarities and differences between modern and WWII ghettos.
this video is a very good choice and it is so similar to what we talked about in class; about how people barley had enough to eat and about doing bad things just to try and survive.
